TEXAS TOWNSHIP — A 1-year-old girl was killed tonight when she was struck by a pickup truck driven by her grandfather as he was pulling out of his driveway on Eagle Lake, police said.

The girl, whose name had not been released as of late tonight, was struck at about 8:30 p.m. in front of a house at 1438 N. Eagle Lake Drive.

“She was in the driveway. What she was doing there, we don’t know,” Kalamazoo County Undersheriff Pali Matyas said. “(Her) grandfather just did not see her.”

The grandfather lives at the house, which is on Eagle Lake, but the girl did not live there, Matyas said.

The garage is situated close to the street and a black, 4x4 Ford F-150 pickup was sitting in the driveway between it and the street shortly after the incident. Sheriff’s deputies were examining the truck in the area of the front, passenger-side tire and were taking measurements on the driveway and inside the garage.

Matyas said there were no indications of any wrongdoing in the incident, but that the sheriff’s office would be continuing to investigate it.

“These are all investigated, because they involve a death. It will be forwarded to the prosecutor’s office for review,” the undersheriff said.

“This is just a very unfortunate accident at this point.”

Ringo Starr has spoken of his "love" for Liverpool, three years after he made a TV swipe at his hometown.
The former Beatle told Jonathan Ross on his chat show in 2008 there was "nothing" he missed about the city.
But speaking after a performance ahead of a European tour - which includes a date in Liverpool - the 70-year-old Fab Four drummer said: "There's lots I miss, of course.
"I did that joke with Jonathan Ross and I'm still paying for it, it seems - where three people from the Wirral complained. But of course I love Liverpool."
Ringo Starr and His All Starr Band played the intimate gig for a handful of fans an well as journalists from around the world in a huge aircraft hangar, best known for being the studio for Top Gear.
They performed four tracks for the audience, who sang along and clapped.
They finished the short set with a rendition of the Beatles Sgt Pepper classic With A Little Help From My Friends, for which Ringo stood down from his drums and clapped his hands over his head.
Speaking of his fondness for Liverpool, Ringo added: "I was brought up there. My family is still there - not my Mum and Dad of course. I have such memories of Liverpool. Liverpool is very close to my heart."
Referring to the Jonathan Ross comments, he said: "People in Liverpool, my friends in Liverpool still, and my family, they thought it was funny."
The band's 28 date tour starts in Kiev, Ukraine on June 4 and it is Ringo's first UK tour since 1998.
