Ten Years Ago Today...

......We were having a little shindig, ringing in the new Millenium. Steg, Haley, Ike and I went on a beer run shortly after midnight. Remember this was when lots of people were freaking about Y2K and how the stroke of midnight would bring about an outbreak of mass chaos, the likes of which our world hadn't seen (the movie 2012 hadn't been released yet.) So when we returned to the hotel, we told Paul, ADawg, and the other friends in our group that we knew would believe something like this** that a riot had broken out downtown, buildings were on fire and being looted, and the S.W.A.T. team was about to move in and you guys need to go check it out RIGHT NOW. Those poor bastards sprinted to their cars like kids bouncing downstairs on Christmas morning. Needless to say, they weren't very happy with us upon their return. We laughed though.

**In high school, our friend group was split into two lunchtables. At the beginning of the year, they were basically interchangeable; we all just sat down where there was room, and didn't think much of it. But as the year progressed, two definite factions formed, like when nWo took over WCW wrestling and people started choosing sides.

This picture almost makes me want to start watching wrestling again. Almost.

There was 'The Nice Table' and 'The Other Table.' The Nice Table consisted of DVJS, Fundy, ADawg, Brooks, Russell, and a few others (Bergman was the only one who would truly switch-hit between the tables.) At this table you could take place in a nice conversation, without fear of being made fun of for the slightest slip of the tongue (eventually Paul, who stuck it out for a long time at The Other Table, finally snapped and went to The Nice Table for the rest the year. It was inevitable, he's always been a nice guy at heart.)

The Other Table featured Haley, Lane, Ike, Jake, Steg and I, among others. Our table, while still good friends, was quite a bit less cordial than the other one. Haley was the kid who invented "I'd rather throw this food on the floor than give it to you." Lane and his patented 'Johnny Tremain Hand' (where he would grab your hand and mercilessly squeeze until it was mangled and useless, just like Johnny Tremain in the story) was a bully straight out of a 1980's John Hughes movie. Talking to Ike & Jake (especially if you're a new girlfriend, trying like hell to fit into your new boyfriend's friend group) is like being Scott Evil, trying to talk during one of Dr. Evil's routines. It was just non-stop ball-busting. Just ruthless.

OK, that asterik was like twice as long as the original post, let's get serious. Long story short- most of my friends are dicks, and Happy New Year. Can't believe this decade is already over.

its electric.

After painting my nails fun electric colors that reminded me of the 90's I felt like showing off this editorial styled by the lovely Katie Shillingford. The two go hand in hand with how I feel right now, bright and playful! Although these photos remind me of a time when I was super crazy about dying my hair bright orange and pink in "like" the fifth grade, I'd like to think now that maybe my mom thought I was being some-what innovative instead of a complete weirdo. How could she let me out of the house with hair like that... on second thought after seeing this editorial I might be tempted to bust out some sort of cropped neon t-shirt or swing by the nearest American Apparel.  Now all thats missing is some glow sticks and this model is ready for a rave.

I feel like Roberto Cavalli might be suggesting a bit of a 90's vibe too by using these cold vibrant colors for his Spring 2010 campaign.

Another random picture post.

The Recap.

The beginning of the year I went to New York for the first time and it changed everything for me. Along the way I have met a lot of incredibly talented people in the industry and have made so many friends. Thus being said, friends do come and go and I have learned so much from everyone who I have met and most have helped me in so many ways. A year ago I knew very little but 2009 will always be the start of an amazing journey. Everything has been such an adventure, cant forget about the night PINK dragged me out to a bar in Miami to meet my favorite photographer, Greg Kadel. It’s just one of the many amazing things that has happened this year. I have to keep working hard and the things that were meant to be will just keep happening. I went to NY a few times this year. Once I got a taste I needed more. I even ended up going to fashion week for the first time. Hands down it was the high light of 2009 for me.
So it has been a year of working hard and staying focused. Sometimes I don’t even get called Kristin anymore everyone just calls me Skinny, which was interesting at first but now I kind of like it. So the blog has changed things quite a bit.
I cut all my hair off, learned that blondes don’t always have more fun and dyed it back brown. I spent a lot of time working on a really awesome portfolio. The photographers that I have met and have had the opportunity to work with this past year have truly taught me so much. I know that over this year I have said a lot of negative things about the industry in Miami but I truly believe that there is a good handful of talented people here. Not so much the models but the creative’s such as; photographers, makeup artist, hair stylist and even a few wardrobe stylist. I’m lucky to be involved in the majority of what goes on here. I have watched several of my friends get signed with agencies and be published in some really awesome mags.
So basically this year consisted of traveling to new places, made some really cool videos, went topless on the beach, collected a massive amount of magazines, got more job opportunities, and now I’m even starting to shoot… what will 2010 be like. Another internship? I’m so excited for the New Year! Thank you to everyone who reads the blog, you guys are amazing.

XOXO

last days in the city.

What is there not to love about this editorial. It is so beautiful. I love the styling and with New York as the backdrop it couldn't get any more perfect. The big yellow jacket is brilliant. I love the pop of color.

Get me out of here.

Im out in the middle of no where right now for the holidays. Visiting family is great but I'm dyeing out here. Imagine a world with out fashion and then you get this boring town. Ok so its not that bad (yes it is) but I'm really bored and cold. Im use to spending my days at the studio setting up photo-shoots, reading fashion magazines, and networking. Im going to be here for another week and Im finding it hard to get inspired and be motivated. Even if I was back in town there really wouldn't be that much to do considering everyone else is also out of town and all the agencies are closed.
