Boris Said, Greg Biffle tangle after race

WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. -- NASCAR officials will review an incident in which Greg Biffle took a swing at Boris Said in the garage following Monday's Sprint Cup race at Watkins Glen International.

According to witnesses, Biffle approached Said's car after a wild green-white-checkered finish in which Said got into the back of David Ragan, Biffle's Roush Fenway Racing teammate.
The bump sparked a violent crash that destroyed the cars of Ragan and David Reutimann, whose Toyota went upside down and into a retaining wall shortly before another crash initiated by Tony Stewart brought out a caution flag and secured Marcos Ambrose's first Sprint Cup win.

After the race, Biffle took at least one swing at Said through the window of Said's Phoenix Racing Chevrolet. Once Said unstrapped himself and climbed out of the car he went after Biffle, who by then was protected by his crew.

"He is the most unprofessional little scaredy cat I've ever seen in my life,'' said an angry Said during a TV interview with ESPN The Magazine's Ryan McGee. "He wouldn't even fight me like a man after. So if someone texts me his address, I'll go see him Wednesday at his house and show him what he really needs."
"He needs a whooping and I'm going to give it to him. He was flipping me off, giving me the finger. Totally unprofessional. Two laps down. I mean, he is a chump," Said added.
Said, a road course specialist who finished 22nd, admitted it was his contact that initiated the crash that collected Ragan and Reutimann, who were released from the infield care center without major injuries.
But Said was more upset with Biffle, who finished 31st after running out of gas early, than about the accident.
"He comes over and throws a few little baby punches and then when I get out he runs away and hides behind some big guys,'' Said said. "But he won't hide from me long. I'll find him. I won't settle it out on the track. It's not right to wreck cars, but, he'll show up at a race with a black eye one of these days. I'll see him somewhere."
Biffle used his Twitter page to respond to Said's remarks.
"Boris,'the roadcourse ringer' caused that wreck," he posted on his page, later adding. "Then Mr. Class pulls in behind my truck after the race today?! Shouldn't you go check on David & David? How unprofessional & disrespectful!"
Both drivers left the track before NASCAR officials had a chance to talk to them.
"We are evaluating the situation,'' NASCAR spokesperson Kristi King said.
Any potential penalties likely would be announced on Tuesday or Wednesday.

Houston Texans training camp: Already thin RB corps sees another injury

The Texans entered Monday night’s preseason game against the Jets with three running backs nursing hamstring injuries. Arian Foster, Ben Tate and Steve Slaton have spent more time on stationary bikes than on the practice field.

The coaches hope to get all three back this week for Saturday’s game against New Orleans. Derrick Ward, who averaged 6.3 yards a carry as Foster’s primary backup last season, suffered a head injury in the first quarter of the Jets’ game. That left Chris Ogbonnaya and Javarris Williams as the only healthy backs.

Williams was signed last week. Ogbonnaya went to high school in Houston and played at the University of Texas. He was headed for medical school, but when St. Louis offered him a chance, he delayed his plans.

The Texans signed him to their practice squad last season.

Playing with the starters and reserves in the first half against the Jets, Ogbonnaya ran 12 times for 32 yards and caught four passes for 54 yards, including a 4-yard touchdown reception from QB Matt Leinart. Injuries are the only way he has a chance to make the roster, but he’s a strong candidate for the practice squad again.

Notes: The Texans have five linebackers drafted in the first or second round. Mario Williams (who played defensive end in Houston’s old 4-3 scheme) and Brian Cushing were first-round picks. DeMeco Ryans, Connor Barwin and Brooks Reed were second-round picks. Xavier Adibi, who’s had problems staying healthy, moved from outside in the 4-3 to inside in the 3-4. He had two sacks in the first half against the Jets. The Texans had four sacks in the first half. In the 2010 preseason, they had eight.

Buckhorn again raises eyebrows with talk about Tampa Bay Rays' future

 
TAMPA — Seems like every week Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn is thinking out loud about the future of the Tampa Bay Rays in ways that raise people's eyebrows.
Buckhorn said in a radio interview Tuesday that he believes the team will leave St. Petersburg.
"The Rays and the city of St. Petersburg are going to have to resolve their issues," Buckhorn told J.P. Peterson on WQYK-AM 1010. "There is a contract. And there are ways out of contracts. And there are prices to be paid for breaking contracts.
"But that's got to be between the city of St. Pete and the Rays," he added. "My personal opinion is that they will come. I think the Rays have made it clear that that is not a stadium they want to continue to play in."
If the Rays do leave St. Petersburg, Buckhorn said, and not for the first time, he thinks the best place for them to land would be downtown Tampa.
But asked whether he thinks the Rays will move to Tampa, Buckhorn said, "No. It's my belief that at some point the Rays will leave St. Petersburg … and I absolutely want to be ready when that happens."
On Wednesday, Buckhorn said it's clear that playing at Tropicana Field doesn't work for the team.
What about St. Petersburg itself?
"There may be other locations in Pinellas that work for them," Buckhorn said. "I don't know."
He said he bases his comments on what he has read in the paper and the numbers, not anything from the Rays
To the contrary, Buckhorn said he only met Rays principal owner Stuart Sternberg for the first time before throwing out the first pitch at the Rays game Monday night.
"We had a great chat, but it was nothing specific," he said on the radio.
Earlier this week, Buckhorn told the Times he is not talking about the team's future with the Rays, nor with anyone in either the Tampa or St. Petersburg chambers of commerce, nor with any third parties.
"I'm not getting involved," he said.
But he is talking.
This spring, he told St. Petersburg Mayor Bill Foster, "I'm not going to be the boyfriend in your divorce."
Then last week, he noted that the Rays were sponsoring a big business lunch in downtown Tampa. He told a crowd of 500, "I see the Tampa Bay Rays. Welcome to, uh," then in a whisper, "downtown Tampa."
Now there's this stuff on the radio.
Asked whether making flirty comments doesn't complicate things, Buckhorn said, it shouldn't.
"If you can't have fun with some of these arguably serious situations, you would melt," he said. "Humor is a great way to break the ice and hopefully move the discussion along."
Foster doesn't see it that way.
"Do I think he's helping?" Foster said. "No, I don't, but I understand his role as the mayor of Tampa. And I would appreciate people respecting my role as the mayor of the city of St. Petersburg."
Foster said he believes the economy plays more of a role in determining fan support for the Rays than the Trop or its location. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers didn't blame the city, the stadium, the fans or the bridges when they didn't sell out games last season, he noted.
If anything, Tampa leaders should bring fans over to home games by the busload to demonstrate that the Howard Frankland and Gandy bridges are no big deal, he said.
"That's how we save the team for the region," Foster said.
