The ASP sat down with J. Cole following his Parkfest performance to ask him about his music, the concert and what to expect from him in the future.
ASP: How early in your life were you first interested in music?
J. Cole: Been into music since I [was] a baby. I was singing songs when I was a baby I've been told
ASP: When did you start rapping?
J. Cole: When I was 12 years old.
ASP: Have you always been into Hip-Hop or also other kinds of music?
J. Cole: Yea when I was a kid I was into Bobby Brown and Keith Sweat.
ASP: Are you happy with the progression your music has taken?
J. Cole: Yea definitely from "The Come Up" to now, it's crazy. It's all good, but you can hear the growth, I can even hear the growth. It's incredible to see when I go back and listen to the old stuff ,I still love it but I can see the differences and the growth. It's probably like Kobe Bryant watching himself when he first came in the league, he's better now but he was doing stuff back then that was like, oh, man.
ASP: What do you think is the greatest obstacle still remaining for you to reach in your musical and professional goals?
J. Cole: I think there are always going to be obstacles. I don't think there is one thing; I think there will always be something new every step of the way. As soon as you pass one there is a new one waiting. Obstacles are usually waiting for you, once you pass one you got five more waiting.
