St. Louis is taking a hard hit from violent weather as tornadoes threaten a large swath of the nation's midsection.
A possible tornado is being reported near Poplar Bluff, Missouri, south of St. Louis.
This after funnel clouds touched the St. Louis area earlier today and also hit central Missouri.
A thick gray cloud curtain still hangs over St. Louis, where potato-sized hail was observed.
There are also reports of funnel clouds in Madison County, Illinois, as well as reports of a possible tornado near Fairmont City.
A severe storm which roared through the Chicago area triggered massive delays at O'Hare International Airport and Midway Airport.
Cities including St. Louis, Little Rock, Memphis, Nashville, Louisville, Cincinnati and Indianapolis are listed by the National Weather Service as communities that could be hit by tornadoes or severe thunderstorms this afternoon and evening.
The National Weather Service high risk area now includes parts of Arkansas, Tennessee, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky and Indiana.
The forecast says violent tornadoes are possible in those areas, with large hail and vicious winds.
