One ticket, sold in Minnesota, has won the biggest Powerball jackpot in more than a year.
The winner matched all the numbers drawn last night - 11, 18, 36, 41 and 46, with a Powerball of 38 - to capture an annuity worth $228.9 million, or about $124 million cash.
Less taxes, of course.
A Missouri ticket won $1 million for matching the first five numbers, but not the Powerball, while having the Power Play multiplier option.
Pennsylvania sold one of the 11 tickets that won $200,000 by missing only the Powerball, while not having the Power Play. Florida and Missouri each had two, while single winners were reported in Virginia, Michigan, Nebraska, Oregon, Texas and Washington.
Powerball starts over at $20 million for Saturday's drawing, but that's still the biggest jackpot around. After Mega Millions' $99 million top prize was hit Friday in Ohio, the game rebooted to $12 million, then rose to $16 million Tuesday night for Friday night's drawing.
A smarter play, though, seems to be tonight's $9.8 million jackpot for New Jersey's Pick 6. The jackpot's nearly as big, but the odds are considerably more favorable - "only" about 1 in about 14 million. The chances of hitting Mega Millions are 1 in 175 million, and Powerball is even more astronomical.
