Mr. Huntsman often explains his service as ambassador to China for President Obama by saying “if you love your country, you serve her.”When asked if he would run as vice president under Mrs. Bachmann, should she win the GOP nomination, he said the same thing.
“If you love this country, you serve this country,” Mr. Huntsman said in an interview on CNN set to air Monday and Tuesday. “Every time I’ve been asked to serve over different administrations, from Reagan to the two Bushes, to President Obama, I have the same, the same answer, and that is if you love this country, you serve her.”
It’s unclear whether Mrs. Bachmann could win the GOP nomination, but it’s unlikely that she’d ask Mr. Huntsman to be her running mate. The former governor, who continues to trail in national polls, has let it rip against his GOP rivals, arguing they can’t be trusted to run the country.“It puts the party out of the mainstream, and this country is looking for practical, common-sense solutions,” he told Washington Wire this weekend, before comparing his views to what he called the “rhetoric, nonsense and hyperbole” coming from other candidates.
Mr. Huntsman appeared to understand teaming up with the congresswoman is a far-fetched scenario.
“This is a hypothetical conversation,” he told CNN. “And I give you more or less a hypothetical answer.”
As for teaming up with the race’s front-runner, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, Mr. Huntsman said, “There would be too many jokes about that. No, I can’t imagine it at all.”
