GILDAN ACTIVEWEAR PROVIDES 7,000 "KEEP THE MUSIC PLAYING" T-SHIRTS FOR NASHVILLE MAYOR'S FIRST DAY EVENT
NASHVILLE - Gildan Activewear, the official T-shirt of CMA Music Festival, supplied 7,000 "Keep the Music Playing" tees for Nashville Mayor Karl Dean's First Day on Sunday at the Bridgestone Arena. The event provides free school supplies for Metro Nashville Public School students.
Gildan Activewear made use of CMA Music Festival to break the Guinness World Record for Largest T-shirt. Unveiled at Centennial Park, the tee measured 180.9 feet by 281.3 feet (nearly the size of a football field), weighed two tons, and took six weeks to make. In recognition of the feat, an equivalent amount of fabric was used to create 12,000 T-shirts - 7,000 were donated to the Mayor's First Day event and another 5,000 will be distributed to Metro music students through Keep the Music Playing.
Keep the Music Playing is CMA's music education campaign in Metro Nashville Public Schools. Since 2006, half the net proceeds from CMA Music Festival have been donated to Metro Nashville Public Schools to purchase music instruments, build music labs, and more. To date, CMA has donated $4.7 million to the cause on behalf of the artists who make appearances and perform at the Festival for free.
"Music education is so important to today's youth and we're thrilled to support the cause," said Randy Brown, Vice President Retail Sales Gildan Activewear.
Once again in 2011, the Festival was taped for a three-hour primetime special. "CMA Music Festival: Country's Night to Rock," airs Sunday, Aug. 14 (8:00-11:00 PM/ET) on the ABC Television Network.
The special includes performances from Trace Adkins, The Band Perry, Dierks Bentley, Sara Evans, Lady Antebellum, Little Big Town, Miranda Lambert, Rascal Flatts, Reba, Darius Rucker, Blake Shelton, Sugarland, Taylor Swift, and Keith Urban. The special also features one-of-a-kind collaborations including Alabama performing with Brad Paisley; Jason Aldean collaborating with Kelly Clarkson; a late-night jam with Kid Rock and Sheryl Crow; Josh Turner singing with "American Idol" winner Scotty McCreery; "Idol" runner up Lauren Alaina joining Martina McBride; Gretchen Wilson partying with Big & Rich; and Alan Jackson performing with Zac Brown Band.
Behind-the-ropes access is part of the special including interviews with The Band Perry, Aldean and Clarkson, Lady Antebellum, Swift, and Shania Twain. The special also features a late-night jam at a downtown club with Luke Bryan; and a day in the life of McCreery and Alaina as they experience their first CMA Music Festival. Several artists step up to introduce their peers including Bentley, McBride, Rascal Flatts, John Rich, Rucker, Shelton, and Twain.
