When DeSean Jackson burned the Giants for another big play, he threw it in the face of Big Blue’s defensive coordinator.
Literally.
And when the Eagles wide receiver returned a punt into the red zone, it became clear that Jackson had put any controversies behind him and was ready to feast on a favorite opponent.
Between his eight receptions, taunting penalty and 51-yard punt return, Jackson again left an indelible mark on a game against the Giants - helping his team get off the schneid and shock its rival, 17-10, for a fifth straight win in East Rutherford.
“Yeah it was huge for us. So many things have been said about us, about our heart, about the 3-6 'Dream Team,’” said running back Lesean McCoy, who rushed for 113 yards. “For us to finally come together, fighting for four quarters, it showed a lot about the character in this locker room.”
If it felt like dé jà vu to Giants fans, it’s because Jackson returned a punt for a game-ending touchdown last year that not only sent Tom Coughlin into a hissy fit, but severely damaged the Giants’ playoff chances.
Coming off a one-game suspension for missing a team meeting - a situation stemming from Jackson's dissatisfaction with a contract paying him roughly $550,000 this season - the 24-year-old provided a gutsy encore on an injured ankle.
With Vince Young struggling early as the replacement for Michael Vick, who was out with fractured ribs, Jackson hauled in a 48-yard reception. . After he was pushed out of bounds, Jackson flipped the ball at a surprised Giants defensive coordinator Perry Fewell, who was on the sideline - adding fuel to an already chippy game.
Whether or not Jackson was purposely mocking the defense didn't matter. The result, a taunting penalty, short-circuited the Eagles’ drive.
