Danny Woodhead’s ‘Dream’ inspires kids

New England Patriots [team stats] pint-sized superstar Danny Woodhead, who showed up all the doubters who told him he was too small to play in the NFL, is the star of a new kids’ book that’s all about perseverance.
“Danny Woodhead: Football Dream Come True” tells the tale of a young Danny who wants to play in his team’s championship game, but the coach tells him he’s too small.
“He keeps up the right attitude, though, and tells the coach, ‘I’ll be ready if you need me,’ ” said Jon Goode, the Lowell Spinners spinmeister who wrote the book. “The team is losing at halftime, and the coach decides to put Danny in. I don’t want to spoil the ending for you, but as you can probably guess, he scores the winning touchdown.”
And gives kids some valuable advice too.
“With all his teammates celebrating, Danny says to everyone, ‘Don’t ever stop believing in your dreams,’ ” the book concludes.
“Football Dream” is the third kids’ book that Goode and illustrator Rachel Gregorio have done with local sports heroes. They previously collaborated with Red Sox [team stats] closer Jonathan Papelbon [stats] and his younger twin bros Joshua and Jeremy on “Pitching With The Papelbons,” and with Celtics [team stats] fun guy Glen Davis on “Basketball With Big Baby.”
All the proceeds from the books go to the C2 Mission, which benefits children and families affected by cerebral palsy and cystic fibrosis. Goode, who overcame cerebral palsy, founded the Mission.
“I speak to a lot of school kids and love being a role model,” he said. “And sending a message out to kids using athletes in children’s books is a great way to do that.”
Woodhead, Goode and Gregorio will be signing copies of the book at 5:30 this evening at PINZ in Milford. Do tell ’em the Track sent you
