Hospitalized Preacher Billy Graham in NC ;tested for pneumonia

ASHEVILLE, N.C. — The Rev. Billy Graham was admitted to a hospital Wednesday near his home in western North Carolina to be tested for pneumonia after suffering from congestion, a cough and a slight fever, his spokesman said.
The 93-year-old evangelist was taken to Mission Hospital in Asheville, spokesman A. Larry Ross said. His personal physician, Dr. Lucian Rice, said he was in stable condition.
A news release issued by the hospital said Graham was alert, smiling and waving to staff as he entered the hospital. Ross said Graham was admitted for observation and treatment and likely would spend the night there.
Ross said Graham was in good spirits after undergoing a full afternoon of medical tests. His daughter, Gigi, visited him after dinner for prayer and Bible reading, Ross said. As the two watched television in the hospital room, Ross said they found a replay of Graham’s 1973 crusade in St. Louis.
For six decades, Graham led a worldwide crusade-based ministry that packed stadiums with believers and allowed him to counsel every U.S. president since Harry Truman. His most recent book, “Nearing Home,” was published last month.
In recent years, age-related conditions such as macular degeneration and hearing loss have kept Graham at his home in Montreat, about 20 miles east of Asheville.
He was last hospitalized in May, when he spent five days at the same hospital for pneumonia. In October 2008, Graham was hospitalized after he tripped and fell over one of his dogs. Earlier that same year, he had elective surgery on a shunt that controls excess fluid on his brain. The shunt was first installed in 2000 and drains fluid through a small tube, relieving excess pressure that can cause symptoms similar to Parkinson’s disease.
Graham has also suffered from prostate cancer and was hospitalized in 2007 for nearly two weeks after experiencing intestinal bleeding. His wife, Ruth Bell Graham, died in June 2007.
Graham rarely appears in public now. The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association is run by Graham’s son, Franklin.

Daniel Day Lewis as Abe Lincoln! Wow Check out

Thank God Double D lent his John Hancock to “Lincoln”!
Hey, as disappointing as it was that after umpteen years attached to play the part Liam Neeson ultimately had to nix Spielberg’s “Lincoln” project (Neeson, of course, fronted Spielbuster’s “Schindler’s List”), you can’t bring out the whine card when it comes to the choice of his replacement – Daniel Day Lewis. Forget about replacement, the man’s just as good an actor as you’ll find. Full stop. In any film. Maybe even on the credit roll of “E-Street”. Even “Son of Mask 2″ would probably be worth a watch if Day Lewis was in it. Which he isn’t.
All jokes aside, Day Lewis is going to do magic with such Lincoln bites as “Allow the president to invade a neighboring nation, whenever he shall deem it necessary to repel an invasion, and you allow him to do so whenever he may choose to say he deems it necessary for such a purpose – and you allow him to make war at pleasure”, no!?
Giddy.
The “My Left Foot” and “There Will Be Blood” showpony has gone all out for the role of the assassinated prez in Spielberg’s long-gestating biopic. In addition to growing a gnarly Lincoln beard (seen in the pic below), he’s also said to have been “in character” since the first half-of-the-year – meaning he’ll only answer to Mr Lincoln (on the call sheet, you’ll find no sign of Day Lewis’s name, only Lincoln’s) and, like most actors do after a while, is probably starting to believe he actually is the president of the United States. Heck, don’t be surprised to hear Day Lewis is sharing a doona with Sally Field (playing Mary Todd in the film) each night; research being research and all.
Sounds nutty, but we’ll be the ones rewarded when we see just how far Day Lewis hits it out of the park in a year or so when we catch his sure-to-be-stunning performance. Roll out the red carpet…
I’ve been impressed by quite a few other actor’s takes on Lincoln over the years – namely John Carradine in “Of Human Hearts” (1939), Jason Robards in “The Perfect Tribute” (1991), Hal Halbrook in “North and South” (1985), and who can forget Robert V.Barron’s take in “Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure” (1991)? – but I’m betting Day Lewis will flatten the competition. He nails it every time. Even in his lesser efforts, like “Nine” and “Eversmile, New Jersey”, he’s great (and I know many would consider Day Lewis’s participation in Martin Scorsese’s “Age of Innocence” to be a career blunder, but I actually think that’s a terrific film, highly underrated, and yes, Day Lewis is stupendous in it).

Victoria's Secret Angels Rock the Catwalk:VIDEO

The Victoria's Secret Fashion Show stole the spotlight Tuesday night, receiving its highest ratings ever (4.6 with adults 18-49) and its largest audience since 2002 with 10.3 million viewers.

The show, which aired on CBS for the ninth time, wasn't merely models swaying down the catwalk but was more of an experience with a transparent view of the production.

Viewers were allowed a behind-the-scenes look at the show with the chimes of crew communications urging, "Go! Go! Go!" and directors urging, "We need Adriana!" when the wardrobe crew had trouble undressing Adriana Lima from her superhero outfit.

Recording artists Nicki Minaj, Jay-Z, Kanye West, and Maroon 5 performed for the show. During Maroon 5's performance of "Moves Like Jagger," vocalist Adam Levine walked the catwalk hand-in-hand with Victoria’s Secret Angel and girlfriend, Anne V, planting a kiss on her cheek when they reached the end.

Amid all the show's focus on beauty and extravagance, the viewers were taken into the lives of the Angels with pictures from their childhood, making the gorgeous models more relatable. The glamorous Angels discussed their childhood aspirations, most of which had no relation to modeling.

"Little girls are going to be looking at us going, 'One day I hope I’m an Angel'" Lily Aldridge, wife of Kings of Leon lead vocalist Caleb Followill, said. "And they will be. Someone will be. Someone that's watching this will be an Angel."

Due to Pregnancy Mindy McCready Can't Return.

Country singer Mindy McCready said Wednesday she probably will not be able to bring her 5-year-old son back to Florida to fulfill a judge's order by Thursday afternoon -- because she is nearly seven months pregnant with twins. By not returning as ordered, she risks arrest.

Speaking exclusively to The Associated Press, McCready said she and her mother have had a long custody battle over the boy, Zander. Her mother was awarded guardianship in 2007.

The battle became more public this week, when the Florida Department of Children and Families said a missing person report was filed with police after McCready took Zander from her father's home. McCready was able to visit with the boy there under a court order, and the 36-year-old singer said she had spent much of the past month with her son at the home. Her mother and father are divorced.

McCready alleges that her son suffered abuse while living at her mother's home and that is one reason why she left with the boy last week.

"I'm a mom first," said McCready from Nashville, Tennessee. "No matter what happens, I'm going to protect my kid. If I have to go to jail, so be it."

When reached at her home Wednesday night, McCready's mother, Gayle Inge, said the abuse allegations are "absolutely not true."

During the interview with the AP, a tearful McCready recounted a messy and confusing tale of court custody battles and family fights.

On Tuesday, the Florida agency discovered that McCready and the boy were not at her father's home and a judge ruled she must return him voluntarily by 5 p.m. Thursday or risk an arrest warrant.

McCready said she was under the impression that the Florida judge was transferring the custody case to Tennessee and that it wouldn't be a problem if she brought him there.

Since topping the country charts in the mid-1990s with her music, the singer's life has been filled with domestic abuse, drug arrests and a suicide attempt. In August, she filed the libel suit in Palm Beach County against her mother and the National Enquirer's parent company, American Media Inc., over a story published in the tabloid newspaper that quoted Inge.

McCready, whose son could be heard giggling on the other end of the line Wednesday as his mother spoke to the AP, said the father of her twins is a music producer named David who is supportive of her quest to regain custody of Zander.

Wednesday was McCready's 36th birthday.

"I hope that for my birthday, I get my son forever," McCready said.

Agreement,Mike Leach has to coach Washington State

Mike Leach will be back on the sideline next season. Washington State reached a verbal agreement with the former Texas Tech coach one day after firing Paul Wulff.
The school said Wednesday that Leach had agreed in principle to a five-year contract and will be introduced at a press conference next Tuesday.Financial terms of the contract were not available, but according to a story by CBSSports.com, the deal is for five years and would make Leach the third-highest paid coach in the Pac-12.
In a statement released through the school, Leach said: "I have always admired the tradition of Washington State. It's a university on the move that is experiencing growth. I'm excited about what they are doing with the facilities and it's a team that has battled through some hard times and shows great promise in the future.
"I'm proud to be a part of this team."
Leach, 50, was fired by Texas Tech in December of 2009 following a dispute over his handling of receiver Adam James. The son of ESPN announcer Craig James, Adam James claimed Leach forced him to sit in a construction closet during practice after suffering a concussion in a game.
In reaction to his firing, Leach filed a lawsuit against the school and ESPN. That lawsuit is still pending.
On the field, Leach was a big success. His teams were 84-43 and reached a bowl game in each of his 10 seasons.
Tommy Tuberville succeeded him and is 13-12 in two seasons, including a 5-7 mark this year which is the school's first losing record since 1992.
Leach will have a big task rebuilding Washington State, which has not played in a bowl game since 2003 after Rose Bowl appearances following the 1997 and 2002 seasons.
Wulff was 9-40 in four seasons with the Cougars, though the team improved to 4-8 in 2011.

On top of expecting a wee addition to the Gyllenhaal-Saarsgard gang, this means Jake Gyllenhaal soon will be an uncle twice over (We're picturing lots of goo-goo noises and stuffed animals around him too).

Maggie and Peter are already parents to 5-year-old Ramona, the teeny fashion plate they raise in -- natch -- Brooklyn. News of their pending second was first reported by People.

Gyllenhaal and Sarsgaard started dating in 2002 and wed in 2009. That same year, they took their act from home to the stage, co-starring in a production of "Uncle Vanya" on Broadway.
But back to Uncle Jake.

Caring for an infant can mean sleep deprivation for any mother, so Maggie is especially lucky to have her movie-star brother on deck: Jake is known to have a very, very calming effect.Sure, Melissa McCarthy would like to find herself wafer-thin one day, but for now the Emmy-winning "Mike & Molly" star says she has other, more important things to worry about.

Still, a girl can dream.

"Yes, do I hope I wake up tomorrow and it's like, 'What's the matter with her?' I hope I wake up at like 94 pounds, but I don't think that's going to happen," McCarthy told Anderson Cooper in an interview that aired Monday.

I'd say even the icon grid claim is reaching. The pictures shown all show the Android application drawer. The actual home screen on Galaxy S devices, what shows up after unlocking, is not the icon grid with a dock. You have to dig into the phone to get to the grid of icons, which frankly again has been shown to be a pretty standard phone UI. Older Palm/Sony models had the "icon grid" UIs in their phones also. :

Yes they are sleezeballs with cable pricing etc, but for the informed consumer, thier price/financing deals put them ahead on price controlled inventory like Apple stuff.

All these changes are also likely to see a departure from the standard Alum shell. There will probably be a new attractive enclosure to separate the lines. Almost instant load of applications along with all the extra speed of Leopard on a sweet Meron chip with all the new iCandy and functionality will likely make me pull my credit card. Sigh, you're entirely missing the point of this case. No one's arguing that there's been a grid of icons before, it's just that Samsung went the extra step. See, Android itself doesn't have a near-identical desktop, but TouchWiz does. TouchWiz is what you see here, the icons have been made into squares (like the iPhone), there's now a Dock with frequently used apps with a grey background to distinguish it (like the iPhone), it has a black background (meh) but it uses white dots to note the page it's on (like the iPhone). They went the extra mile to provide an iPhone-like experience for their Android devices.

Yes. People here are failing to understand the difference between traditional patents that we usually hear about here, and design patents. I believe what Apple is suing over is infringed design patents. That the Galaxy S has a icon grid method for selecting applications is irrelevant in that case. They tried to copy the general design and likeness of the iPhone, which is against the design patents.

Also, whoever it was arguing it previously... Let's not trot out the whole "Apple lost the 'look and feel' argument against Microsoft" thing. That was a different case. Design patents still get filed and granted all the time. This is a new case.

It would be nice if 10.5 would allow a more 'blind' method to utilize these cores, versus having programmers specificly program for multi-core. Now that would be extremely helpful and allow a more simultanous workflow.

How much more 'blind' do you want it? All the programmer has to do at this point is use multiple threads. Even if they don't, multiple cores will be automatically used for system and other processes.

Splitting one thread so that it ran cocurent with itself is a recipie for massive trouble. Mac OS X is about as blind as any system out there for the programmer. There may be some more optimizations that the system could make in it's own handling of multiprocessing, but from a programmer's perspective it doesn't matter how many cores the system has. (Unless you really want it to.)

According to Appleinsider, the Mac Pro would have 2 4x and 1 8x PCIe slots. I see two problems with this. (1) All higher-end PC mobos out now have at least 1 16x slot, some have 2 for SLI/Crossfire.
Re-read the article.

It says there will be three available slots - 2 4x and 1 8x. These are the slots that will not be used by factory-bundled devices.

The bundled ATI X1800/X1900 video card will be in a 16x slot. It probably won't physically fit anywhere else!
(2) Why only 3 slots? PCs have 6 or so (as did the Power Mac 9500 & 9600) with a few regular PCI slots.
4 slots. 3 unused. Not 3 total.

Most PCs don't have more slots, either. Sure you can find a few counter-examples, but 6-slot systems are not common. And with the exception of the PM 9500/9600, Apple has never shipped a 6-slot system. (The Quadra 950 had 5. Everything else shipped with 4 or less.)
Why would Apple shoot itself in the foot like this? The Mac Pro is supposed to be a lot better than all other PCs. It would be nice to have 2 16x lanes for SLI and a few PCI slots for older expansion cards and cards that don't need the bandwidth of PCIe. Besides, this is supposed to be a Pro Mac, which means professional people would want to add a bunch of cards, not just 3. I'd expect a person working in something like movie production would want to have dual graphics cards, a fiber channel card to connect to an xServe RAID and maybe an M-Audio sound card for audio input. Since I don't work in movie production, I wouldn't know, but it would make sense.
You seem to think that a Pro system must have the capability of accepting every hardware device ever invented. (And how do you do this without making the case six feet tall?)

Dual video cards are only used by gamers. I doubt gamers are going to be interested in buying one of these, for the same reason they don't buy other Macs - the software comes out for other platforms first.

As for FC interfaces, they can work fine in any of the available slots. And there's no need for audio cards when you've got S/PDIF optical audio in/out.

Remember also that a studio won't be doing both video and audio editing on the same console! The people who are expert at one job are not going to be expert at the other. And if your studio is so strapped for cash that the different editors have to share a single computer, then you're in pretty sad shape!

I don't think you realize what you're asking for. A system that is capable of performing all possible tasks at once is just unrealistic. Nobody will ever equip a system like that, because no user will have those kinds of requirements.

Even in the PC world, where more slots are common, you almost never find a system that has actually filled all those slots with devices.

I'm not trolling, this is an honest question. But isn't a Final Cut pretty much worthless for commercial use without a way to put the results on Blu-Ray?

Yeap, cause everything ends up on BluRay, no wait, it doesn't.

FCP is for editing, Motion is for graphics, Soundtrack Pro is for audio, Compressor is for encoding (even for BluRay) and Color is for grading.

If you need to author BluRay you use another tool.

Also there will be no training of the new software at NAB, why because NAB is almost over by Tuesday night. Most of the training will already have happened. And there is always a lot of training going on, there are classes to get certified, and certified instructors do not get advanced copies of the software.

Also I don't see Apple hijacking the SuperMeet, those guys would not screw all their long time sponsors for a one time apple thing. This event is huge, they have everything. Now there might be some re-shifting but as I said Tuesday is a long time to hold something through NAB. Apple used to have there own major event on Sunday mornings to unveil the newest FCP.

folks said the same thing about FCS3 and Snow Leopard and yet as I recall that is exactly what they did.

I always felt the reason FCS3 came out just before SL was precisely because it wasn't 64-bit and was more of a maintenance release, whereas SL was touting Grand Central Dispatch etc etc...

I'm really not looking forward to Lion at all. It just seems like a huge step backwards for those of us that use our computers as real computers and not toys. I have an ipad, an iphone and several macs, but they each have specific uses. I don't want my desktop machine to be anything like my ipad, one is for doing real work and doing my daily stuff on, the iOS gadgets are for fun games and browsing mostly.

I LOATH the whole idea of merging OSX and iOS, they shouldn't even be related. I hate how they are ruining expose, I really don't want my stuff groups by app, I want to see every window like it is now. I have no use for "full screen" apps, why would I waste all my screen real estate only showing one thing at a time? I hate the idea of getting programs through the app store on the Mac, I refuse to do that. I hate all the gesture crap going on, sure it's fine for laptop users, but it's of no use to me on my mac pro.

I think all this is just a dumbing down of what is an amazing OS. I don't use my mac with dual displays anything like I'd use an iPad, so why put that crap in there? I just don't like the direction they are taking OSX in general, and I doubt I will upgrade from snow leopard. To me this is very sad news, the day OSX and iOS merge is the day the mac dies.


I'm pretty susre you don't HAVE to use the new stuff. Old expose is still there for instance.

Darn it ... I just received my crossgrade upgrade yesterday eventhough I only own powerbook and am waiting for merom based laptop. While on the topic of fcp, can I install on my powerbook for now and in install on later on my future intel-laptop? (reading the legal eula it seems install is only allowed for one laptop and desktop... I guess I will have to uninstall first on powerbook .....) I am just not sure if apple will block my serial number or something ...

I certainly agree that the Core duo will be the lastest, latest.

yet what about it will be so valuable to the user, that has jsut purchased one.
That he should return her new unit.

Does it bake cookies, ? no.
Produce less heat? no , it wont really. and if it does it will be small differences in possible either direction. Cooler or hotter.

So, I see the only real difference with CPU changes as being limited to a small boost in hertz. Minor at best.

In the iMac realm there will be little other changes, most are limited to the Macpro area etc.

And returning it will cost time and effort waiting for the next iMac which may not appear for some time.

I am assuming this is a cluster? I seriously doubt that would be enough space for every person to access their iTunes content via the cloud. The only conceivable way is if you were limited to the amount of space (like allocated into your 20GB default mobileme account). That would be weak.The original post doesn't say it will be used for customers to store their own files, only for Apple to store all the video content on the iTunes store. Each video file is only stored once so 12PB is probably more than enough for all the videos they currently have (you'd have to be a pretty lazy data architect not to account for growth in the original plan).

I'm sure they already have a large enough storage system for cloud storage/iDisk, or will be planning to expand or replace one soon.

Your Missing the point, it is a complete waste for apple to release this phone in this color.

#1 - it has taken them almost a year to work out the paint issues with this thing meaning that they have been putting R&D money effertlessly into a phone color, all for what?

#2 - If you are the few that dont have a cover of a "bumper" for your phone, then you will get to show off your cool new white phone which will take on every scratch and every dirt stain you can imagine.

#3 - If they have worked so long and hard on this new color, to mass produce it and ship it all over the world, just before they are going to release a new product, within 6 months (approximately) dont you think they would just for go the ip4 white and just apply it to the IP5 and get prepared for that?

#4 - WHO CARES, who literally waited this long for the white Iphone? honestly who in their right minds would have held out to wait for this phone. If someone was going to get an Iphone I dont think the lack of color selection was a deterrent.

What a waste of money, time and hype... this is honestly one of the worst ideas apple has had, or do they actually just have so much money they can afford a huge bill for a product that was either going to be purchased or not regardless of the color.

Also, remember Apple will be selling the iPhone 4 for another year at least alongside the iPhone 5. Its not like the iPhone 4 is going to disappear from the shelves as soon as the iPhone 5 releases.

You do know scratches are less visible on white also. It is the same glass as the black iPhone so im not sure what you are getting at with the stain remark.

To be honest, it's only another iPhone rumor to add to the mix. The idea that Apple is ploughing ahead with new models is nice, but let's wait for v1.0 first before we start speculating about 'new' features.

All this iPhone hype is a bit ridiculous. Remember that the iPhone, when and if it comes out, will be essentially identical to some current SonyEriccson phones, or even the LG Chocolate.:rolleyes: Yes, it may have an apple logo on it, but it's almost certainly not going to be significantly new technology.

Damn I wish we could go back to making sexy cars in the avg family price range again.... I really don't wan't these "safe" pedestrian cars, with headlights that have to be a min height, among other silly additions. I am just so glad that vintage cars are still allowed on the road according to our laws. Though, I do wonder what the actual laws are, because say a Cayman or Corvette has a much lower front, yet is still allowed in Europe, as well as in the states. The going to the S2000s as well, which has a classicly low hoodline.

Anyway, post away of cars you like. Just wanted to state what I dislike about modern cars. Go ahead and buy the Malibu, I just wish I didn't have to at them while on he road:o Then again, most think my E30 is ugly, which is perfectly fine for others to think. (though I wish the hoodline was even lower...)

well, i'm just about to buy a Jetta Sportwagon Diesel. This model wasn't updated but still remains the only station wagon with decent space, price and gas mileage in the USA. I would go for a Passat but it's too big for our driveway and no Diesel Wagon available.

The car market here just plain sucks. There are not many useful models available. Mostly gas guzzling garbage or expensive luxury trash SUV's. Well each people gets the cars that they deserve..........

Maybe the software, but the drive itself may be only compatible with Blu-Ray rather than HD-DVD. Different wavelenghts and all. Could be wrong though, I just think that Apple might let you REAd HD-DVD, just not write....

Correct. The operating system will support both formats, you then require a Blu-Ray drive for Blu-Ray support and/or HD-DVD drive for HD-DVD support. The ability to write as well as read will not be limited, it will depend on the hardware.

Let's see, as a 15 year IT worker who has supported many MS environments, I have been yanked out of bed at 2am 3 times because "new" viruses that the Anti-Virus software didn't even know about, had brought down hundreds of machines on the network, and had even brought down routers and switches.

I think the $100,000 we might spend on IPS/IDS blades for all the core switches to analyze the traffic coming from Windows machines might be better spent if we just put Macs in the network and maybe stick a free Snort box in there as an after thought.

Companies spend millions just keeping their Windows machines in line -thank about it. MS has never been serious about security.
